Neutering and Spaying

By spaying or neutering your cat, you’ll help control the pet homelessness crisis, which results in millions of healthy shelter animals being euthanized in Canada each year simply because there aren’t enough homes to go around. There are also medical and behavioural benefits to spaying and neutering your pets.

What is spaying or neutering?

During a spay or neuter, a veterinarian removes certain reproductive organs, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus for females and testes for males. It makes your cat unable to reproduce while eliminating the heat cycle (for females) and prevents breeding instinct-related behaviour.

When should I neuter/spay my cat?

Kittens should be spayed or neutered when they reach sexual maturity, which is usually at the age of 4-6 months. However, a cat can be safely spayed or neutered at any age.
